About Pastel Toys
A non-profit organization, has established a village and home
for adults with special needs. Within the framework of the work and
rehabilitation programs various branches of employment have been established,
allowing the residents to acquire skills in different types of work. Buying a
toy from Pastel Toys carpentry helps the residents to be self-sustaining,
enhances their self-esteem, while improving their skills, and supports the
development of the Village.
Kishorit was founded in 1994 by a group of parents and professionals with the
aim of establishing a settlement, which includes a communal neighborhood (a
kibbutz) and a village for people with learning, functional and adaptive
disabilities, while giving parents the security their children will be provided
with a home and treatment for the rest of their lives. The village is set up in
a community planned according to the example of the Israeli kibbutz. The 120
residents of the community take part in most of the decision making process and
in the organization of the village (including the management), as well as
helping friends to reach decisions about their personal and social life.
In order to reduce the economic dependence of the Community on parents and
government offices, a number of profitable production lines have been
established like an organic vegetable garden (as almost all residents take
medication, the consumption of healthy food is of prime importance), an organic
goat farm, a milking station and a kennel, as well as
carpentry and an
organic chicken coop.
